# Syrtis

> A local-first AI token usage monitor for the macOS menu bar. It reads your
> AI coding session logs on-device and shows what you spend across 25+ coding
> agents — no telemetry, no account. Native Swift (SwiftUI + AppKit) around a
> Rust parsing core, with Liquid Glass on macOS 26.

## What it is
- Native macOS menu-bar app for Apple Silicon, macOS 14+ (Liquid Glass needs macOS 26; earlier systems get a vibrancy fallback). MIT licensed, free, open source.
- v1.0.0 (June 2026) replaced the original Tauri implementation; the Tauri repo is archived and `tokenbar@legacy` pins its final build (v0.4.5, macOS 11+).
- Tracks 25+ AI coding agents from local logs: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Copilot, Amp, Droid, Hermes, Goose, Kilo/KiloCode, Roo Code, Qwen, Kimi, Crush, Zed, Kiro, Trae, Warp, and more.
- Session parsing, dedup, and pricing are delegated to the vendored tokscale-core crate.

## Dashboard views
- Overview: contribution chart (2D stacked bars + interactive SceneKit 3D year graph), agent limits with pace, live session trace, model breakdown, streaks.
- Models: every model ranked by cost with an In/Out/CacheRead/CacheWrite split.
- Monthly: active months, selectable to drill into that month's per-model breakdown.
- Daily: active days, selectable to drill into that day's per-model breakdown.
- Hourly: a 24-hour-of-day rhythm of token spend.
- Stats: total spend, active days, streaks, favorite model, best day.
- Agents: sub-agents ranked by cost with source apps, message count, and tokens.

## Menu bar
- The status item shows live token throughput as an animated menu-bar pet (the oiiai spinning cat, tokcat's signature; or Party Parrot, from RunCat) or a subscription-quota gauge: signal bars, a ring, or a popsicle that melts as the five-hour window drains, with battery-style warning colors. The menu-bar pet concept and Party Parrot originate with RunCat; Syrtis reuses tokcat's choices, it did not originate them.

## Updates
- In-app updates over a signed Sparkle (EdDSA) feed; release notes are summarized from the actual commits. Beta builds are a Settings toggle, not a separate install.

## Privacy
- Usage history is read locally from disk. No telemetry, no analytics, no cloud sync, no account.
- Network access is limited to the signed updater feed, public model-pricing data, and optional Codex/Claude quota lookups that reuse the OAuth credentials already on the machine.

## Install
- Homebrew: `brew install --cask nanako0129/tap/syrtis` (macOS 14+, Apple Silicon)
- Legacy (final Tauri build, macOS 11+): `brew install --cask nanako0129/tokenbar/tokenbar@legacy`
