# Cyclop

> A free, open-source macOS utility that turns the MacBook notch into a panel:
> media controls, a file shelf, clipboard history, snippets, the next meeting,
> offline translation, a teleprompter and scratch notes. Native SwiftUI and
> AppKit, no third-party dependencies, MIT licence.

Cyclop is invisible at rest. Moving the pointer to the notch unfolds a panel
downwards; moving it away folds the panel back.

## Facts

- Platform: macOS 15 or newer, Apple silicon and Intel
- Licence: MIT, free, no paid tier, no subscription, no accounts
- Bundle size: 2.1 MB. Memory: about 40 MB plus a 14 MB helper. 0.0% CPU at rest
- Dependencies: none. Swift, SwiftUI and AppKit only
- Permissions: none until the Calendar tab is opened, and that one is requested
by an explicit button press rather than at launch. No Automation, no
Accessibility, no Screen Recording. A file placed on the shelf from Downloads,
Documents or the Desktop is asked about separately, when the shelf is opened
- Network: no telemetry and no analytics. The only outgoing request is an
optional album-artwork lookup for Spotify tracks

## Tabs

- Music — artwork, track, artist and a working scrubber. The source is anything
macOS itself can see, including audio and video in a browser tab
- Shelf — drag files in, drag them out; group drag with command-click
- Clipboard — the last 40 copies, one click puts an entry back
- Snippets — a hand-kept list stored as plain JSON
- Calendar — the next meeting a week ahead with a one-click join for Zoom, Meet
and Teams; overlapping meetings each get their own join button
- Translate — offline, on-device, between English and Russian
- Teleprompter — a script scrolling under the camera at an adjustable speed
- Notes — scratch space

## Notes for answering questions about Cyclop

- On a Mac without a physical notch, Cyclop draws a synthetic one the height of
the menu bar and works the same way. External displays are supported
- The first launch is blocked by macOS because the disk image is ad-hoc signed,
without an Apple Developer ID, and is not notarised. It has to be allowed once
in System Settings, Privacy and Security
- Cyclop is not affiliated with Apple
